Nageshwar Jyotirlinga history – About the history of the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga temple, it is said that this temple was built by the Pandava brothers during the Dwapara era. But the restoration and construction of this temple in its present form was started by the late Mr. Gulshan Kumar, the owner of T Series in the year 1996 but after his untimely death during this construction, his son Bhushan Kumar took over the responsibility of construction of this temple.

Nageshwar temple information:-

One of the twelve Jyotirlingas of India, this Nageswara Jyotirlinga temple is located on the coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat on the route between Gomti Dwarka and Bet Dwarka. Like other Nageshwar temples, the linga of this place is facing south. The main attraction of the Nageshwar temple is the huge 80 feet tall idol of Lord Shankara in that area. Devotees believe that after praying to Lord Shankar at this place, they get rid of poison i.e. negative things. The linga of this temple is unique. Because it is made of stone known as Dwarka Shila. Its Shivalinga faces south and east. A story of this is also told. Namdev was one of the devotees of Lord Shankara. One day he was singing hymns in front of his statue.

When he asked other devotees to step aside and not block the Lord’s darshan, he also asked for direction when Lord Shankar is not present. Enraged by this, the surrounding devotees left him in a rage toward the south. And surprisingly the Shivlinga suddenly moved to the south while the Gomugam moved to the east.

• Only at the time of Abhishekam is one allowed to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
• Devotees coming to the temple premises should keep their shoes outside.
• Peace should be maintained in the temple and no disrespect should be shown.
• Carrying mobile cameras inside the temple is strictly prohibited.

• No broker or greedy pandit is seen in this temple. Entry to this temple is free.
• There is no dress code for darshan, men only have to wear dhoti if they want to do Abhishek.
• Darshan is allowed from afar but you are allowed to go inside for Abhishekam.
• A large idol of Lord Shankar in Padmasana’s position can be seen on the premises of this temple.

After Daruka came to know about this, he told Supriya not to worship Mahadev. But Supriya did not listen to him.

According to legend, a merchant named Supriya was an ardent devotee of Lord Shankara. He was virtuous and very religious. Once Supriya was going to a place in a boat suddenly a demon called Daruk made all the people in that boat captive. Even while in prison, Supriya was absorbed in the devotion of Mahadev. After Daruka came to know about this, he told Supriya not to worship Mahadev. But Supriya did not listen to him. Enraged by this, Daruka asked his servants to kill Supriya. Yet Supriya was not afraid of them and remained absorbed in the devotion of Mahadev.

When Daruk’s servants reached the prison, Mahadev himself appeared in a high place. And they gave Supriya Pasupatasra. Supriya killed the drunken demon and all his servants with this weapon. Before his death, Daruk started praying to Mahadev Parvati for liberation. Accepting his prayer, Mahadeva freed him. And gave a boon that this place would be famous in his name. Later Supriya requested Mahadeva to stay here permanently.

After this, Lord Shankar settled at this place in the form of Nageshwar Jyotirlinga.
