The second Jyotirlinga i.e. “Mallikarjuna” which is one of the famous twelve Jyotirlinga of India is situated on Srisailam mountain on the bank of river Krishna in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh state. Mallikarjun Temple History –

According to legend, the history of Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga can be seen from inscriptions of the Satavahana dynasty. Many great kings and emperors contributed to the construction of this Jyotirlinga. It is said that the kings of Pallava, Chalukya, Kakatiya, Reddy, etc. did the development work of this temple.

The main pavilion and south gopuram of the temple were built by King Harihara of the Vijayanagara Empire. The kings of Vijayanagara had built a gopura at this place. Its crest was of gold. A lake and a temple were also built at this place. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had darshan of this Jyotirlinga in the year 1667 during his invasion of Karnataka. At that time, he built a gopur on the right side of the temple and also started an annachatra at that place.

And is considered to be one of the most powerful Lingas of Lord Shankar.

Timings and Entry Fees to the Temple –

Mallikarjuna can visit the temple anytime during the year. But the best time to visit here is generally considered from November to February. Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga darshan takes half an hour to one hour due to this VIP pass. The second card is free.
If you want to stand in a normal queue and have a darshan of Jyotirlinga, you can do so, but during the month of Shravan and festivals like Mahashivratri, the place is crowded with devotees. So it may take you a long time for darshan.
