By doing this, Mahadev Himself appeared from the Shivlinga. A fierce battle took place between Lord Shiva and Bhima. Bhima died in the battle. The deities then requested Mahadeva to reside here permanently. After that, Mahadev was installed at this place in the form of Shivlinga. Due to the battle with Bhima at this place, this place got its name as Bhimashankar.
