On that day, the energy waves of Vishnu are working and the Earth, associated with Lord Vishnu, is considered to be the best carrier of Aap and Tej waves. Therefore, Sesha is given an important place in this worship.
Story
Long ago there was an ascetic Brahmin named Sumanta. His wife’s name was Diksha. He had a daughter named Jyotirmay. Her name was Sushila. But unfortunately Sushila’s mother i.e. Deeksha died. After that, Sumant got married again to a woman named Karkashya. Sushila was then married off by Sumanth to the sage Koundinya, and the girl wanted something to give at the time of the wedding, so the stepmother gruffly tied some bricks and pieces of stone to the son-in-law.
Saddened, the sage left for his hermitage along with his wife. On the way, night fell and they spent the evening by a river. Sushila saw that at this place women were worshiping some god wearing beautiful clothes. When Sushila asked them, the women ritualistically informed her about Anantavrata. Sushila performed that vow there and approached Sage Koundinya with a 14-knot rope tied in her hand.
When they asked about the rope, she told them the whole story. They broke the rope and threw it in the fire. Thus Lord Ananta was insulted. As a result of this, sage Kaundinya became unhappy. All their wealth started to disappear. When he asked his wife the reason for his poverty, Sushila reminded him of the burning of the rope. Repenting to this, Sage Kandanya went to the forest to obtain the eternal rope. After wandering in the forest for several days, he fell down on the ground in despair.
At the same time Ananta Bhagavan appeared and said, O Kundanya Rishi, you hated me, that’s why you had to suffer. Sadness fell upon you. Now that you have repented of this, I am now pleased with you. Now you go home and ritually vow to infinity. If you fast for 14 years, all your sorrows will be removed. You will get wealth, happiness and wealth. On hearing this, Sage Kaundanya went home and performed the same vow. So he was freed from all this suffering and suffering.

Immersion of Ganpati on Chaturdashi
Ganapati Bappa, established on Ganesh Chaturthi day, is immersed on the 11th day i.e. Anant Chaturdashi. The legend behind this is that Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi was the day when Ved Vyasji started narrating the story of Mahabharata to Ganapati Bappa to write the Mahabharata. While narrating the story, Veda Vyasji closed his eyes and for 10 consecutive days, he kept telling the story to Ganeshji and Ganeshji kept writing.
On the 10th day when Ved Vyasji opened his eyes, he saw that Ganeshaji’s body temperature had increased greatly as he was sitting in one place and writing continuously. In such a situation, Ved Vyasji asked Ganapati to take a dip in cold water to cool him down, so he felt relieved.
Where Ganapati was writing the Mahabharata at the behest of Vedavyasji, the Alaknanda and Saraswati rivers confluence. The day Shri Ganesha bathed in the confluence of Saraswati and Alaknanda was Anant Chaturdashi. That is why Ganapati is immersed in Anant Chaturdashi after the establishment of Chaturthi.
Shree Ananta Vrat

Chaturdashi is observed on Bhadrapada Shuddha Chaturdashi. This year it will be celebrated on 28 September 2023. It is said that this fast should be observed on this day. On this day Anant means Vishnu is worshiped and the Vrat of Anant is celebrated. They complete this fast by worshiping the fourteen-knotted silk thread infinitely for fourteen years continuously so that the calamities that have befallen them may be removed and they may regain their glory.
Pandavas had to suffer 12 years of exile and one year of exile after losing the mission. There is a story that Lord Krishna preached to fast on Anant Chaturdashi to get rid of this calamity. When the month of Shravan begins, our festivals begin. Every year the festivals start from Nag Panchami and one of them ends on Anant Chaturdashi. Although Anant is the name of a great serpent, it should not be overlooked that Anant is also the name of Vishnu.
On Anant Chaturdashi, Lord Vishnu is worshiped as ‘Anant’. Anant Chaturdashi fast is observed by very few households. The story of this vow is similar to the story of Satyanarayana. That is, when someone was in trouble, someone else asked him to do this Vrat of Ananta, and thus his suffering was relieved.
Later there are stories of this vow in the form that he forgot to perform this vow and a great calamity befell him. The peculiarity of this fast is that after the pooja, the immersion is done on the next day or after two or five days like Ganapati Pooja, on the same day after the pooja. Although this Ananta Vrat is said to be observed for 14 years, many people observe it for life.
Endless thread of 14 knots

This year Anant Chaturdashi falls on 28 September. It is said that the Lord created 14 people in the material world. Which includes Bhuloka, Vital, Brahmaloka, Svarloka, Satal, Janaloka, Bhuvarloka, Tapoloka, Maharloka, Atal, Mahat, Rasatal, Talatal, and Patal. The cord of Ananta has 14 knots to symbolize these glands.
It is believed that 14 knots are tied in the Anantasutra to symbolize the 14 lokas. It is believed that one who observes Anant Chaturdashi continuously for 14 years gets the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Importantly, the infinity cord is tied on the right hand of men and on the left hand of women.
Significance of 14 knotted ropes in Anantavrata
- By symbolically worshiping the rope of 14 knots with the help of mantras installing Shri Vishnurupa in the rope and tying this rope in a danda, the body becomes completely charged with this power.
- Each gland has a specific deity. These deities are invoked on these knots.
- Lord Vishnu has no beginning or end, He is infinite. Legend has it that Lord Vishnu assumed fourteen forms on this day to protect 14 people, so this day is also called Anant Chaudas.
- In the following year, old cords are dissolved and new cords are effectively tied by chanting.
- After worshiping Lord Vishnu, tie this fourteen-knotted thread i.e. Anant Rakshasutra in your hands for long life and freedom from all troubles.
- The tangle of cords is thought to symbolize the current flowing through the body from one gland to another.
- It is a religious belief that tying the infinite thread removes all miseries and troubles.
