What is Ikebana – Art of flower arrangement.

Ikebana is word made up of two japenese words Ikiru means “Living”, and Bana means “flowers”. Ikebana is Japanese art of flower arrangement in which, “Flowers life ends when plucked from Plants, So Adding life into these dead flowers by arranging them in beautiful structure is called Ikebana”.

In ancient japan in religious events flowers are widely used for decoration purpose, By that reference Japanese people started decorating their homes with flowers, after that method of decorating flowers inside pot has started. Ikebana Rules

there are certain rules need to be followed to create a perfect ikebana using flowers so below are basic rules of ikebana.

Flower stalks should be strong, broken stalks should not be taken.
Remove dried leaves and flowers.
There should be enough water inside flower pot.
When designing, buds and small flowers should be at the top and large flowers at the bottom.
The lower side of the flower should be tilted forward while arranging the wreath to give depth to the composition.

The right combination of flowers of different colors and sizes, the matching of the flower pot and the place of the flower arrangement also need to be considered. Since flower pot is a part of Ikebana, the size and color of the pot in which the flower is to be arranged has to be taken into consideration.

Ikebana is mainly formed by three lines

1-Subject Line of Ikebana

This is the main line and it has to be strong. The length of the flower or leaf used as the subject should be equal to the length of the pot + the depth of the pot. It is general formulae for Ikebana Subject selection. Subject(flower/leaf length) = (Length + depth) of pot

2-Secondary Line of Ikebana

This line balances with the subject line. The length of flowers or leaves used for this is two thirds of the subject. This is formulae for Ikebana secondary line selection. L of flower/Leaf = 2/3^rd of subject.

3-Object Line of Ikebana.

It gives angle and depth to the flower arrangement. The length of the flower or leaf used for this should be half of the subject. This is recommended formulae for Object line. L of flower/Leaf = 1/2 of subject.

1-Vertical style Moribana – Ikebana art of flower arrangement.

This reveals the beauty of the flowers and branches that stand straight from the center of the container to the top. Secondary is tilted 45 degrees on the left side of the subject and the object is tilted 60 degrees on the right side.

2-Upright style Moribana- Ikebana art of flower arrangement.

It shows the beauty of the flowers and branches coming straight up from the corner on the left or right side of the container. Both of the above can be used with gladiolus or tuberose flowers as well as snake leaves or umbrella plants and roses or marigolds.

This type shows the beauty of flowers or branches that are bent forward and pierce each other from the right or left corner of the container. In this mode, the subject covers the entire container and shows the beauty of the bent loop. Flexible palm leaves can be used as a subject, along with tuberose and rose flowers.

Rectangular or boat curse containers look good in this. In this truth the pin holder is in the center of the container. This style is a variation of contrasting and slanting style. The length of the subject depends on the length of the handle of the basket. Flexible branches go up and down. These flexible branches need to be supported to move upwards. This design mainly uses elastic and flexible flowers and leaves.
